About the Assessment
What is the
ADOS-2?
The ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition) is the most widely recognized and clinically validated tool for evaluating behaviors associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is used by trained providers worldwide as the gold standard for ASD assessment.
At Amatoria Wellness, your ADOS-2 evaluation is conducted by Tyson, a trained examiner who guides you through a series of structured interactive exercises and conversational tasks in a calm, private setting.
This is not a written questionnaire. It involves real-time observation of how you communicate, interact, and respond — giving both you and your provider meaningful, evidence-based answers about your neurological profile.
81–95%
Sensitivity range for detecting
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Based on published ADOS-2 clinical validation studies
A diagnosis is based on comprehensive clinical judgment and your full evaluation. Results will be reviewed with you thoroughly at your included follow-up.
Eligibility
Is this right for me?
Our ADOS-2 evaluation is designed for a specific group of individuals. Please review the criteria below.
You are 18 years of age or older
This evaluation is offered to adults only. We do not currently provide pediatric ADOS-2 testing.
You are verbal
The ADOS-2 module we use requires the ability to communicate verbally with the examiner throughout the session.
You are seeking clarity about ASD
Whether you've wondered for years or are newly questioning, this evaluation is for adults who want clear, evidence-based answers about autism.
This is not a treatment appointment
No medications, prescriptions, or treatment plans are provided during this visit. It is strictly diagnostic. A separate psychiatric evaluation can be scheduled if you'd like to discuss treatment.
What to Expect
Your evaluation journey
From the moment you book to the moment you receive your results, here’s what the process looks like — step by step.
Book & Pay Your Deposit
Reserve your appointment by submitting your $250 deposit. This secures your 90-minute provider time block with Tyson. The remaining $750 balance is due at your visit. All appointments are scheduled at least 10 days in advance.

Complete Your Pre-Work
You and optionally a family member will be asked to complete structured intake paperwork about your behavioral history and background. This must be submitted at least 24 hours before your appointment — if it is not received in time, your appointment will be rescheduled. Tyson reviews this ahead of your session to ensure thorough, accurate scoring.
Due at least 24 hours before your appointment
Your ADOS-2 Session (50–60 min)
You'll meet one-on-one with Tyson for your structured evaluation. This involves conversation and interactive exercises — not a written test. To protect the validity of your results, phones must be turned off and no additional individuals may be present in the room.

Scoring Time (30+ min)
After your session, Tyson requires a minimum of 30 minutes to score your evaluation using standardized ADOS-2 protocols. You are not required to wait on-site during this time. Total provider commitment per evaluation is approximately 90 minutes.

Not Available
Most insurance carriers do not recognize adult ADOS-2 testing as medically necessary. We are unable to bill insurance for this evaluation. However, if you later choose to pursue psychiatric services at Amatoria, those appointments may be scheduled through the medical side and billed traditionally — and psychiatric evaluations are frequently covered by insurance.
Policies & Requirements
Important policies to know
Please review these policies before scheduling so you can plan your appointment with confidence.
Pre-Work Submission
All required intake paperwork must be received at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. If paperwork is not submitted on time, your appointment will be rescheduled. This pre-work allows Tyson to review your history before the session and supports more accurate, thorough scoring.
Testing Environment Rules
- Phones must be turned off for the duration of the session
- No additional individuals may be present in the testing room
- You will work directly and independently with Tyson
These rules protect test validity. The ADOS-2 measures real-time, uninfluenced behavior — the presence of others significantly reduces diagnostic accuracy.
No-Show Policy
- First missed appointment: Your $250 deposit is retained; you may reschedule one time
- Second missed appointment: Deposit is forfeited; you are welcome to rebook after a new deposit
** We understand life happens — please contact us as early as possible.
Scheduling Windows
- Appointments scheduled no sooner than 10 days in advance
- Maximum of 2 ADOS-2 evaluations per day clinic-wide
Deposit must be received before appointment is confirmed
** First available: March 26 & 27, 2026
If My Test Is Negative
If your evaluation does not support an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis, we recommend scheduling a separate Initial Psychiatric Evaluation to explore other possible causes of your symptoms. Psychiatric evaluations are frequently covered by insurance and can be scheduled through the Amatoria medical side.
After Your Results
While there is no single cure for Autism Spectrum Disorder, many effective treatments exist to reduce and manage symptoms. Your complimentary follow-up will help you understand your results and explore next steps — including support, accommodations, or symptom management — all in a caring, judgment-free space.
Policies & Requirements
Your questions, answered
Here are the questions we hear most often about our autism screening service.
Why can't anyone else be in the room with me during testing?
The ADOS-2 is designed to observe your natural communication and behavioral patterns in real time. When others are present — even supportive ones — it changes how you interact, speak, and respond. This reduces the diagnostic reliability of the test. We ask that companions wait comfortably outside to ensure your results are as accurate as possible.
Why does this cost $1,000? Is that typical?
The cost reflects what it truly takes to offer this service responsibly. The ADOS-2 manual alone costs $200, the non-reproducible patient booklet must be purchased per patient and in bulk from the publisher, the complete materials kit costs approximately $1,000, and annual provider training runs $500–$600. Add 90+ minutes of provider and staff time, pre-work review, and your included follow-up consultation — and $1,000 represents the bare minimum for sustainable, quality care. We believe you deserve an accurate, properly administered evaluation.
Can my insurance cover this?
Most insurance companies do not recognize adult ADOS-2 testing as “medically necessary” and will not cover it. This is an industry-wide issue, not specific to our clinic. Because of this, we offer it as a cash-only service. If you later choose to pursue psychiatric services through Amatoria, those appointments may be eligible for traditional insurance billing.
What is the pre-work I need to complete before my appointment?
Before your appointment, you and optionally a family member or someone who knows you well will be asked to complete structured forms about your behavioral history, communication patterns, and background. Tyson reviews this before your session to support more thorough and accurate scoring. All paperwork must be submitted at least 24 hours before your appointment — if not received in time, your appointment will be rescheduled.
What does my included follow-up appointment cover?
Your included 30-minute follow-up is a private consultation — in-person, virtual, or by phone — where Tyson walks you through your results in detail. You’ll learn what the findings mean, what a positive or negative result implies for you, and what your next steps might look like. This is your space to ask questions, process the information, and leave with real clarity. There is no additional charge for this appointment.
Can I get treatment or a prescription at this appointment?
No. This appointment is strictly for ADOS-2 administration, pre-work review, and scoring. No medications or treatment plans are provided during this visit. If you’re interested in symptom management or want to explore treatment options after receiving your results, you may schedule a separate psychiatric evaluation with our team.
I need documentation for disability or government benefits. Is that available? +
Yes, we are happy to support you. If you plan to use your results for disability services, government benefits, or formal accommodations requiring provider documentation, there is a one-time $200 administrative fee. This covers paperwork preparation, potential resubmissions, and certified mailing. Please note this fee applies per case resolution — if a denial occurs and resubmission is required, the fee applies again due to the significant time invested in that documentation.
Does a positive result guarantee a formal diagnosis of autism? +
No single test can guarantee a diagnosis. A diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder is based on comprehensive evaluation and clinical judgment — the ADOS-2 is a highly validated and important component of that process, but it is not the only factor. Your provider will discuss the findings in the context of your full history and clinical picture during your follow-up appointment. Testing does not guarantee a diagnosis.
